The other week,
I was playing
flag football
in my gym class.
I was with Amanda,
Jenny, Sarah, Annika,
and this girl
I didn’t know.
She had long,
curly hair.
It was blondish-
She was short,
and her eyes
were squinty.
The way she talked
was like the
main girl
from Juno.

For the first
fifteen minutes,
I was the quarterback.
When I was finished,
I looked at the girl
and said,
“Hey, what’s your name?”
The girl looked
up at me
with her squinty eyes.
She took her time.
“Why do you want to know?”
My team,
who were having their own
looked over at me.
I said,
“Oh, I was just wondering
if you wanted to be
and I don’t know your name.”
“I’m not telling,” she said.
Amanda looked at me.
I could tell she was
wondering what I
was going to do.
“Okay!” I said,
“Annika, do you want to be

We kept going on the game.
Jenny had the ball,
and the only person open
was squinty girl.
“You! Umm, over there!”
She threw the ball.
Squinty girl didn’t hear
nor see the ball coming.
It hit her right in the face.
Our team gasped.
The other team gasped.
They all saw her attitude
towards me,
and they didn’t want to know
what she’d do to Jenny.
Squinty eyes just stood there.
Her eyes were now closed.

“Ow.” She said.

I came up to her.
“Are you okay? That looked
like it hurt. Do you want to
sit out?”
She was quiet,
and I watched her.
“Can you please…
stop talking to me?”
I stood there.
Everyone was watching.
“Okay.” I said.

The rest of the game
felt awkward.
I went up to her again.
“So, when I throw the ball
to you,
what should I call you?
You’re really good at
and you’re open a lot.”
The sun was coming up
and hitting her eyes.
She looked down from
the sun.
“Well,” she said,
“If you really want
to know…
Some people call me
I knew I might end up
in a coma if I smiled,
so I bit my lip.
“Oh really? That’s
What else do they
call you?”
She looked up at me.
“Another name is…
“Those are both
very cool names.”
I said.
“Isn’t her name
Tasha or something?”
Amanda shouted,
while running up
to a girl
with the football.
“Shut up,” squinty girl
She was ashamed of
her name.
“Do you think I
could call you
Silver Dragon?”
I said.
“Yeah,” she said.

Everywhere I see
I yell her name.
“Hey Silver Dragon!”
“Silver Dragon,
pass me the ball!”
“Silver Dragon,
you look pretty.”

One of these days,
I’m going to bring
a Pokemon ball,
and yell,
“Silver Dragon,
I choose you!”

The best.
