If you haven’t noticed, I’m kind of an uptight person. And to deal with my uptightness, I make lists and lists and schedule everything out. Even my journals–if you can call it a journal–are more lists than stories or summaries of my day.

In 9th grade I couldn’t sleep much. I stayed up thinking about my grades and how they now mattered and oh no oh no, Mr. Flake’s geography test… But then Mr. Flake told the class one day to make a list of every half hour in the day and schedule it out. Then you could see how much time you have in a day to study.

Brilliant. I’ve done it ever since. The moment I feel out of control, I make lists. On paper or in my head. What will I do tomorrow? Well. 7, I’ll wake up. 7:30 I’ll be done getting ready. 8 I’ll eat breakfast and get ready to go. 8:30… And so on.

It’s crazy. But it makes me not feel so crazy.

  2. I’m a list gal. Nothing wrong with that at all. Brings order to a chaotic world. Quiets my mind. 🙂

  3. Holy cow. Impressive.
