I got a D on my last test in freaking Intro to Linguistics. Everyone did crappy so the curve got me a C+. Still. So we went over the questions in class and he messed up on my grading on 10 of the questions. Then he got bothered by me during class because I tried to argue an answer that I got 3 out of 5 points on and not 5.
“The points add up! They totally add up.”
Someone in the front of the class mimicked me, saying squeakily, “They totally add up.”
We had this test and we were given an hour and each question he practically wanted an essay question. So I was just trying to get through the questions as fast as he could. He was going over one of the questions in class and I asked him if I could read him what I wrote. He said it was a great response.
“But I only got 3 out of 5 points.”
The highest grade was 125 out of 160. That is still missing THIRTY FIVE points! I got 104. So shihface student who mimicked me for saying “totally” still got C+ or lower.

  1. It’s not a good sign for a teacher when everyone in the class does poorly on an exam. Maybe the teaching was worth a C+ as well.
